On to the Halloween Hat. Cheryl from Rosey Posey Confections is my swap partner. I couldn't make her anything scary, after all, she makes the sweetest fabric creations. It's more of a fun Halloween design. Striking black and white flowers and a vintage belt buckle came in perfectly for one of the o's in boo.
Now, on to the "weird things". I've been tagged to post 7 weird things, but I had actually done 7 random things before in this post, so it got me thinking about the "weird" or glorious ways of creative people. Now, I'm warning you, random thoughts just "pop" into my head. This happens when I'm driving to town, which is a relaxing 20 minute ride in the country. Around here, a lot of retired people go South for the winter, (something to do with MINUS 10 degree regular temps, not windchill). The out flux starts the end of October. I started wondering, if someone like me could live in a motorhome for part of the year. Instead of 7 weird things, I have 7 questions about motorhome living, AND yes, depending on your artsy, creative, altering state of mind, you might think I'm weird for asking!
1. Do they make slipcovers for bench seating? Does it come in cream linen, or are you just stuck with the plaid or striped brown, green, blue, or mauve heavy duty upholstery?
2. We all know the REAL reason for traveling, (oh my the ground you could cover in a motor home!). The REAL reason has to do with antique malls, flea markets, and boutiques that deal with altered and reclaimed items, and the like. My route South would include the LARGEST garage sale ever that spans something like 200 miles in the Eastern states. SO where do you put your purchases? Do you pull a u-haul behind you? By the time you retire is your husband so compliant with your "ways" that he does not even blink at the u-haul you have hitched up to the back of the motorhome? If you have stuff shipped back home, is someone there to claim the boxes and crates? If you absolutely had to, could you walk away from vintage millinary hats in shades of pink and aqua or rolls of the perfect vintage wallpaper? Why did I even say that, that just makes me sHiVeR.
3. Do you have to leave your containers and shelves of creative supplies at home. Seriously, I don't think I could do this. I went on a two week vacation last year and had to tuck hand sewing into my suitcase. Who takes care of all your ribbon, buttons, fabric, and little flocked elves and Rhea's PINK flocked deer while you are gone. I know I'm getting carried away, but some of you understand. Can you just leave your "stuff" for months without anyone digging into them and making a mess? Can you bring some with? Just how many craft goodies can you fit into those kitchen cabinets?
4. Where do you craft? O.K. this one I've totally figured out. THE KITCHEN TABLE. Don't need it for eating, we're eating out! The table will be full of glitter and glue. IF hubby wants to sit down, he can sit in the big driver's seat chair. Is a person able to create art while the motor home is moving? Does the glitter fly all over the place? (kinda like this idea and no, I wouldn't let my husband knew he has glitter in his hair)
5. What kind of collection can you decorate with? Is there room for all of Karla's Cottage fairies? Will Angelic Accent Stephanie's mirrors fit? Can Vickie Visuals bring her aquarium where she displays items, (complete with water!). What about my china teacups and china plates? Do motor home people find "new" things to collect that are unbreakable? Is there a cottage chic, or a Tuscan line of unbreakable collectible motorhome decorations?
6. That brings me to the idea of the revamped cottage junque items that most of us love. Has enyone ever sanded down a coffee table, painted it white and put it in a motor home? What about the outside area around the motorhome. Do camping sites allow you to stick a white wooden fence, or a leaded glass vintage door in your "spot" to make it look cottagey AND again, where do you store it?
7. Last but not least, I would like you to know that if I do ever spend time in a motor home, I would follow what Karla did to the little child's car; spray paint it pink, and throw buckets of silver glitter on it. My husband won't mind this, he totally "gets" me!
I've run out of numbers, but I have to add #8...When you're on the road, how do you get your swap package????????
PS: Just to let you know, spending an enormous amount of time in a motorhome with my husband (and no work for him) would be heaven to me, so please you motorhome people, don't be insulted. I'm just wondering!!!

I love that enormous jar with the art doll!!!!
I think you should do the pink/glitter thing! I have often wondered the same things you have... thanks for writing them out for me, too!
I love the new colour-it's very calming!! And I adore the Halloween hat too!xx
I've been following your blog for a while, but I don't know if I have ever commented. I love pink and love looking at your decorating and designs. Had to chuckle at your motor home questions. :-)
I noticed in your top picture that the fabric on the sofa looks to be very similar to mine, only mine has a green stripe behind the flowers. Mine is also badly in need of replacement as it is worn through in places. May I ask if your sofa was bought from a chain or department store, or if it is slipcovered, if you bought the fabric from a retail chain? I'd love to find something similar so that when I do replace or recover mine it will still fit into the decorating scheme I have.
super cute hat!!!

The hat is *fabulous*!!
Oh Ele, what a great post. Sad but true I think we all feel the same about the motorhome deal.

Oh Ele, you crack me up! When I read your first question- about slipcovers for icky seats, I though "she sounds just like Karla!"- that is just like something she would say- and then when you mentioned Karla and her glittery pink convertible- I started to think what a great before & after project redoing an RV in pink & pretty would be. I know if Karla did it- she'd paint roses on the outside and add flower boxes- wonder how they'd handle 70 mph on the interstate?!
Thanks for making me laugh!
Girl, I just loved this!!!!! Had me rolling! Yeah - all reasonable concerns and questions to me! Hey, the color in your sitting room? Appears to be the EXACT color of my craft room... soooo... yeah, I love it!
Ele, You made me laugh! Every once in awhile there are some really cool looking motor homes in Country Living Magazine. I'll have to look for one to show you. I would love to have one and make it all 50's retro or 40's or shabby chic. And crafting on the road...that would be awesome. I'd fill the whole underneath storage with stuff from all over the country. Now, You've got me thinking!! Oh, and I could stop at all my blog friends houses!!
Ele! Hi....
I love that wall color!! I am planning on painting too ... and some sort of blue is the color that I've chosen as well (blue represents calm, cool, and relaxing) exactly what I need for my bunch of men LoL!!
Found a really pretty Robins Egg Blue distressed paint finish technique that I'm excited to try ;o)
Have a fabulous day!!
Dionne
ps. thank you for the sweet compliments!!

you're so funny!!!!!
loving the blue colour by the way! lol you aren't going insane like you thought in your email, i hadn't seen it being away. oh and lucky Cheryl!!!! xo
For seat covers, if it's just for the couch or bench, I have a few suggestion. Sew oversized "pillow cases" for the bench cusions (enough extra to tuck one end inside and the other under). Then sew "sleeves" to slip over. Keep the main cases on and slip off the "sleeves" when they get dirty. Have extra sleeves on hand.
For couches, by a couple of nice fitted full size sheets. The cover nicely as a base. Then I use bolts of fabric cut into squares, which I tuck in on the top and then bottom half. The split inbetween is great for anchoring fabric. With storage under the bench, I hem a large oblong piece and then close it in on the top edge to anchor. The rest hangs down as a skirt.
For rugs, I use a long runner that is plain. An architect friend gives me square samples. They go in front of sink, stove, fridge and vanity -- all high traffic areas.
I bring a small condensed "craft box" so I can have all sorts of stuff with me.
We don't add any decor or surface treatment that would affect resale. Our philosophy is to cover in order to protect -- and enhance the otherwise style-less decor.
Our park loves to have contest for the best decorated lot. We have to pay heed to high winds and can't put in anything permanent. The one pet peeve I have is literal... folks who let their male dogs urinate on my decor! Be careful of that...
As for hauling your finds...that's what having extra room in the car is for, and why I got one with extra cargo area.
I love that you make RV/motor home posts -- there are not enough rv bloggers around and we all need help!
I have this dream of the rv life, but it sounds like my style and craftyiness is much like yours. Th interior of an RV is so blah! My biggest thought has been how I can get rid of pretty much everything in my house but my craft things, my china, and the antiques. If I have to rip out the crap in the rv to put in my antiques... I think I would. Atleast it would meet my cottage-y style :)
