Pink at the 2010 Grammy's and Grey Decor

I admit, I am a fan of Pink. The color and the person. I love the fact that  she can sing with her rocker voice, and the next moment can turn around and sing a beautiful ballad.  Pink first "spoke to me" years ago as I held my daughter in my arms. During the course of a television interview she talked about what it means to be a girl, and the strength every girl needs to be herself, not a cookie cutter image of someone else.  Just last year, as she was separated from her hubby, she described him as "still yummy".  It was a joy to see them together at the grammys, and both looking so yummy!

My favorite grammy 2010 dress, by far. It was layered, color blocked, and a little blingy. This dress proved to be glamourous and sexy, but not trashy. It was also soft and feminine, but not too foofy. The long earrings.....
perfect, and the silver hollywood clutch, so glam. The colors perfect for her, but these colors are also perfect for decorating!

Grey is the peaceful color. It surrounds us with calmness, but also sophistication and elegance. It can wrap us in a haven of contentment as the world around us goes in many directions.

Just like with Pink's dress, grey looks wonderful when used with graduated grey colors; white to black.

Grey can take on a masculine look, so if you want more of a feminine look add something with curves, (like the table in the picture above), or ruffles, (like the shower curtain below). Lovin the ruffles!

The curves in the picture below include the wallpaper, the chairs, and even the feminine side table pulls. This kitchen is singing a ballad to me!

The bedroom picture (below) is the perfect mix of how grey can be both feminine and masculine. The masculine four straight poster  bed and heavy solid window drapes are paired with a feminine sheer bed curtain and round table. It's a perfect mix for a master bedroom.

Grey is also a great decorating color because it can be paired with ANY COLOR. Look how luscious the jewel tones look against a grey wall.

Isn't this picture (above) FABULOUS? It's from designer Sally Conran. She takes the grey, black, and white, AND totally rocks it with hot pink.

So my girlfriend, Pink, I'm standing in line to borrow that gorgeous grey dress of yours, (insert laughter as I can only wish I could fit into that teeny tiny waist).  You did look fabulous.

The Birthday Party Part III

A party without some type of favor, how shameful.
My mother's 80th birthday had two types of favors.
  • the minty melt in your mouth comes in a little May basket look-a-like type of favor and

  • the beautiful 20 something picture of my mother on a cupcake pick topper stuck into gooey vanilla  strawberry cake with extra rich butter cream frosting type of favor, (gotta love my mom's furry collar).

CRAFT TIP:  The picture topper is an easy peasy project when you use a paper punch~

  1. Cut out two pieces of cardstock with a medium to large scalloped paper punch.

  2. Scan an old picture. I used photo gallery to make copies, and chose the contact sheet (32 on a page). It was the perfect size.Cut these out.

  3. Glue large tooth pick between the two paper punches, and glue the two papers together, (I lined up the scallops).

  4. Glue picture on top.

  5. Cut the cake, or use cupcakes and then stick in the topper!

My  100% Norwegian mother had to have a Norwegian celebration cake!

It is a series of almond flavored rings with almond frosting. To serve it, you break off little pieces of each ring. IF you ask me, it was the BEST food item at the party, and yes I said FOOD!

A Bit of Heaven

Peeking through the cottage garden, I see my favorite windows.

The windows of my church studio, A Bit of Heaven, are beautifully framed by hollyhocks in colors of pink. I have not spent any time in their this summer, but soon, I hope.

The cottage garden is home to a purple bench,

multicolored pots filled with moss roses, a weathered angel, and a vintage spade.

A sweet rusted red tricycle also has a spot in my cottage garden.

Tucked behind my green potting shed is a secret place to sit. Look carefully and you will see a vintage iron headboard beside the deck, and a vintage iron railing hanging on the wall.

In this same spot, a vintage wooden ladder rests against a tree.

The Rug....again?

I know, you have already seen pictures of the new rug in this post, but it seems the rug is a bit magical. It knows how to travel from room to room, and does it well!

It has made it's way to "Pink Girl's" room, and I must say adds a bit of pizazz to the pink/dark pink/black color scheme. See for yourself!

I can't say that I blame the rug. This room is a bit of pink heaven, and there are items in this room with the same phenotype as the rug. You know, the black and white damask pattern.
  • candle
  • jewelry box

  • storage boxes
Is the magic over, or will the rug appear again.......hmmm?

1. Include at least one handmade item with a bird theme. Items can be made in any craft, or art style and can be purchased, or made by you.
2. Include at least one "sweet" item, (your interpretation).
3. Items should follow a bird, nest, egg, or Spring theme.
4. Swap box should have a $20.00 value, (before shipping).
5. After the long winter many of us have had, please don't be a swap deadbeat! If you sign up, you are obligated to follow through in a timely manner. We don't want any sad faces in the midst of our swap.
