Milk glass is found in many shapes, sizes and yes, even colors. Just like grains of sand it can be opaque or translucent, and comes in various shades of white.
Milk glass was first produced over 100 years ago, but was reproduced in the 1980's. Never pay a large amount for a piece of milkglass, unless you are very sure of it's origin. It is very hard to tell the real antique pieces from the reproductions. In my opinion, the newer pieces are just as desirable.
Milk glass isn't just for great grandma anymore. The calm, chic look has achieved a new level in decorating and is showing up on shelves, in cupboards, and even in wedding decorations.

Next time you are at your local thrift store and see milk glass, close your eyes for a moment and visualize yourself walking barefoot in warm white sand. I promise, if you didn't like milkglass before, you will now.

Love, love, love the first picture! Although the color CAN be duplicated, it never looks as good as in the Caribbean Sea! It has been 10 years since I was in the Bahamas and that picture makes me want to hop on a plane and go back.

And you make it sound so very beuatiful!! I will never see milk glass the same way again!!!
I LOVE Milkglass! How serene it is to decor. I recently started a smallish collection of very different hobnail shaped compotes, bottles and dishes to put in a bathroom and LOVE it! Your collection is fab and I love the inspiring photos!! Welcome home! xoxo
I ALSO collect milk glass! I even ordered a pattern (over 25 years ago) for a set of CROCHETED milk glass pieces which I made just for fun! So glad to see other fans of this lovely style! Glad you are back because I missed you, but even MORE glad you had a wonderful time! LOVE YOU!
Hello Ele, wow what beautiful white sand and blue water. I've never seen sand so white in my life. Must have been geogous! I've always loved milk glas but will love it more now. I have several pieces of my Mothers.
Love your previous post on ruffles too! Soooooo cute.

My mom used to have a milk glass piece that looked like a chalice...at least to me and my brother. When we were little we used to break up crackers and put them in the "chalice" and then I would put a towel on my head so I could be a nun and my brother would be the priest and we would play church. I guess going to Catholic school had an influence over our play...anyway, that is my memory of milk glass.
Thanks for the memory Ele!

Ele, I too have a large collection of milkglass and many pieces from the 60s that my mother collected and split her collection up with her granddaughters, but gave me 2 pieces that I bought her. Took me a weeks salary to pay for the cream and sugar bowl with the teaspoon holders around it. Yours are beautiful also. Hugs, Pat :)
Love your collection, Ele!
I am having a "Blue Monday" Giveaway...come by and take a peek.
Have a terrific week!
Stay Cozy, Carrie

I just came across your blog and it is wonderful. I have just started collecting milk glass - love it! We also share a love of pink. I would love for you to visit my blog and give me some feedback.
