Minot Flood 2011


What was once a small river running through the middle of my town has turned into a lake. 

A lake that has inundated 4,000 homes. 1,000 of these homes are not repairable as water measures 6-10 feet on the main floor. 11,000 out of 40,000 people are displaced. 300 dogs are now living in the shelter. Water for consumption needs to be boiled. Water is to be rationed, and some homes that are dry, are exactly that...without water. 

For many, this is the first day of the rest of their lives. 

Although, I am one of the lucky ones, my heart hurts for my friends and family members who are wounded emotionally. As my niece said, "I wish I could just hug my house."

    What an awful and terrible advesary Mother Nature can be. My heart aches for your whole town and each and every person that is there. For those that are "lucky" there is also that overriding feeling of "guilt" for having not suffered as much as others. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Hugs-Diana

    IT has been hard to watch, I have friends that have lost everything too. Growing up near Minot it seems impossible, so much flooding in that whole part of the state which is unusual. Stay Strong Minot, God Bless

    There really is guilt. Hard to explain. Also, a feeling of wanting to help, but can't do a thing. We had a giggle yesterday as my teenage daughter, who is little, was given a large dog to walk at the animal shelter. She was exhausted as the dog pulled her around for two hours!

    I told my hubby when this all started that I feel guilty...survivors guilt I guess...so I am helping as many people as I can. That is so sad what your niece said.....so sorry for her. Happy 4th, neighbor. :)

    This is just awful...just not something that should have happened. I feel terrible for everyone involved in this situation and I hope with helping each other they can sort this mess! All the best to your friends and family and this whole town.
