velvet

I admit, I'm obsessed with velvet. Is it the texture, or the sheen?  Maybe the whole package, or maybe it's the fact that in elementary school, I remember wearing a velvet outfit, or two, and in highschool I'm pretty certain there was velvet to go along with those 80's satin pants!  Paired with cotton that has a smooth/ cool feel, velvet gets me every time.

When setting up my daughter's apartment bedroom, she opted for neutrals with a pop of color. The color she chose; red velvet. Swoon.

We sewed those pillows into shape, (another item we needed to fit into apartment space, her sewing maching). We actually used the fold over method in the back for an opening and closed it with velcro. That way she can take out the pillow forms and clean the fabric if needed. Here's my tip when making pillows: buy the down alternative inserts. Some pillow forms are extremely uncomfortable, and you will hate them!

The choice of bedspread was something neutral, so any accent color would work.

Love me some red velvet, and my girl is happy too!

Blessings,

happy new year!

Happy New Year!

This is my favorite room in my house. It gives me a calming peace. I have shown you this room before, but it has evolved the past year with more texture, shades of creams, and beiges.  2011 was a whirlwind year, with lots of changes, and Christmas brought home all of our children which in itself fills my heart with love and peace.

Right now, this is my favorite item in the room. These wreaths are a hot item. with people selling them everywhere (online). I made mine. Glued the paper rolls to a foamcore wreath and added a little modge podge to the inside of the cylinders to give it a little visual weight and light gloss, (notice the shine).  The paper angel is an item I received in a swap from http://www.pamelajanes.blogspot.com

The wreath is attached to an old florist basket, filled with vintage ornaments and adorned with silver birds.

Joy, Peace on Earth, and imagine.....the possibilities. What more could a girl wish for at Christmas and for 2012. These birds are real silver, so their aging patina is a nice compliment to the vintage jewels I added to their tail feathers.

I'm excited about 2012, and I hope you are too!

Ruffles

Oh my, I'm such a girl. I Looooove ruffles, and not just one row, but layers and layers of ruffles. Not surprised? I know. You know me too well.

Visually, ruffle pillows are fabulous, and believe me, I can't keep my hands off. Touching layer after layer sends those tactile neurons firing.
Use one pillow, or a group. Both are rufflicious.

I even love the ruffles on my vintage Fenton cake plates.

Sleek and milky white, the ruffles are mesmorizing.

Ruffle up everyone, and spread the love!

Crowns and Royalty

Paris and Europeon Chic dictates royal images on pillows, towels, bags, and many other items. Take a stroll through your local home decor department and you'll be sure to notice items with the crown appeal. Adding a royal touch makes a person feel special. To me, it's not about acknowleding one particular queen, but celebrating our lives as women.

This pillow was purchased from Teresa Sheeley.
I was pleased to win this bag in a blog giveaway. Thank you Michele! Look at the royal items Michele offers at Sweet Yesterdays.

I keep my new bag hanging right by my coat and purse. It's filled with craft supplies and ready to go at a moment's notice!

Blessings to you all,
Ele
